GET AN ALKALINE BODY IN ALBUQUERQUE & SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO
INTRODUCTION
Acidic and Alkaline are two extremes that describe a chemical property chemicals. Mixing acids and alkaline can cancel out or neutralize their extreme effects. A substance that is neither acidic nor basic is neutral.
The pH scale measures how acidic or Alkaline a substance is. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. A pH of 7 is neutral. A pH less than 7 is acidic. A pH greater than 7 is Alkaline.
The pH scale is logarithmic and as a result, each whole pH value below 7 is ten times more acidic than the next higher value. For example, pH 4 is ten times more acidic than pH 5 and 100 times (10 times 10) more acidic than pH 6. The same holds true for pH values above 7, each of which is ten times more alkaline (another way to say basic) than the next lower whole value. For example, pH 10 is ten times more alkaline than pH 9 and 100 times (10 times 10) more alkaline than pH 8.
Pure water is neutral. But when chemicals are mixed with water, the mixture can become either acidic or alkaline.
WHAT EXACTLY IS AN ACID OR ALKALINE BODY?
According to Dr. Theodore A. Baroody, the countless names attached to illnesses do not really matter. What does matter is that they all come from the same root cause―too much tissue acid waste in the body!
How do you know if your system is too acid? Do you need to have blood, urine, or saliva tests? At present no tests can accurately gauge how acid you are because current diagnostic methods reveal only that acid wastes are present in body fluids (blood, lymph, urine, mucous, and saliva). Such tests never give a reliable indicator of how much acid waste is actually in the system. Attempting to remove these excess acid wastes, the fluids are always running through the tissues. Although it is possible to measure body fluid as being alkaline or acid, it is impossible to evaluate the state of body tissues (skin, organs, glands, muscles, ligaments, arteries and vessels) based solely on blood, urine, or saliva tests.
Unfortunately, waste acids that are not eliminated when they should be are reabsorbed from the colon into the liver and put back into general circulation. They then deposit in the tissues. It is these tissue residues that determine sickness or health!
Think about it this way. . . Too much acidity in the body is like having too little oil in your car. It just grinds to a halt one lazy Sunday afternoon. There you are―stuck. The body does the same thing. It starts creaking to a stop along the byways of life and you find yourself in some kind of discomfort. It is a great concern that people of all classes and lifestyles suffer from this excess. It is the bane of rich and poor, young and old alike. Meat eaters and vegetarians are not exempt. Cowboys and congressmen also suffer its gradual effects.
First, let us examine what can be done to prevent and alleviate health problems created by alkaline-acid imbalances by obtaining a basic understanding of the biochemical definitions of alkaline-acid.
There are certain minerals in foods that, after being metabolized, throw off alkaline or acid residues in the urine. Measurements used are based on an ideal physical system, but since there are not many "ideal" physical systems around, putting consistent gram numbers on the amount of mineral content left in the urine after digestion and excretion is almost impossible.
Also, consider that since each person is different, one may have a different level of acid toxins already stored in the tissues that will, in some cases, be liberated with the introduction of alkaline-forming substances. Therefore, mixed in the urine could be newly released acid mineral residues which would alter an otherwise "ideal" reading. It has been observed that even the healthiest of persons spill acid poisons into the urine by having taken in a great deal of alkaline-forming foods the day before. This is a temporary natural cleansing mechanism of the body and is not indicative of the true state of alkaline/acid balance.
Another factor in the alkaline/acid equation is how the body processes the minerals in foods. Certain minerals are acid-binding. This means that in the body they bind acid toxins and leave alkaline-forming residue in the saliva and urine. The acid-binding or alkaline-forming minerals are: Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Potassium, Iron, and Manganese. Foods or other ingested substances that contain these, usually yield an alkaline residue. Therefore these foods are called alkaline-forming.
Other minerals are alkaline-binding. This means that they bind the alkaline reserve minerals and leave an acid-forming residue in the saliva and urine. The alkaline-binding or acid-forming minerals are: Phosphorous, Sulphur, Chlorine, Iodine, Bromine, Fluorine, Copper, and Silicon. Foods or other substances that contain these usually yield an acid residue.
Remember we are looking at real people, not a sack of chemicals as many would have us believe. We are dealing with someone who has feelings, (emotions & thoughts) that produce all manner of variable hormone reactions as well.
Let us take the case of a person who appears very solid and in control of his life. He may seem to be a shining example of the alkaline-forming 'philosophy,' when actually he feels furious and full of rampant emotion. In this instance, a substance that should end up alkaline-forming in the saliva and urine may not do so at all. In fact, it could create acid waste products faster than any alkaline-forming food would neutralize. Thus, all ingested substances and all situations (physical, emotional, or mental) that affect the body, leave either an alkaline or acid residue in the saliva and urine.
We need to consider life from a naturalistic view; dealing with the body in terms of what it really is . . . energy! What are these alkalines and acids doing in the body? They are either providing energy to, or taking energy away from the body.
Keeping in mind the previously mentioned variables, in terms of available body energy, the following definitions of alkaline and acid-forming reactions are more correct:
- An alkaline-forming reaction refers to any chemical alteration in the body that produces an increased ability to energize the system and leaves an alkaline residue in the urine.
- An acid-forming reaction refers to any chemical alteration in the body that produces a decreased ability to energize the system and leaves an acid residue in the urine.
Whether a substance is alkaline or acid is determined by its pH (potential Hydrogen) , which measures the number of hydroxyl (OH-) ions which are negative and alkaline-forming as opposed to the amount of hydrogen (H+) ions that are positive and acid-forming.
From the standpoint of pure energy, pH is the measurement of electrical resistance between negative and positive ions in the body. In other words, pH measures how much the negative ions (alkaline-forming) and positive ions (acid-forming) push against one another.
So from this viewpoint, alkaline and acid-forming reactions are purely electro-chemical. This means that we are not just a conglomeration of chemicals, but are also an entire system of highly organized electrical reactions.
We are vibrating beings. The stronger the inner vibration, the healthier we are. The amplitude of body electricity alters in exact proportion to the amount of alkaline and acid-forming chemicals internally present at any one moment.
It is calculated by several authorities that a urine and saliva pH of 6.4 to 6.5 showing up at the same time is best for human body function. However, it is very impractical for the average man to test his saliva and urine at frequent enough intervals in an ordinary workday. I also do not recommend the use of litmus paper or pH sticks for testing saliva and urine pH as an absolute measure of whether the overall body is really too alkaline or acid. These are just too arbitrary and unpredictable. They can be helpful as a temporary gauge of alkaline/acid levels at the moment but are not indicative of the overall presence or amounts of tissue acid waste products already stored in the tissues. For this, we need a more total long-lasting approach.
Instead, use new values and scales for foods and situations that will act as an automatic, realistic monitor of pH levels without having to check these every 5 minutes to see whether they are alkaline or acid. By utilizing new values, you can even determine with a reasonable degree of certainty your alkaline-acid levels over an extended period of hours, days or weeks.
How to make your body Alkaline!
Acid wastes literally attack the joints, tissues, muscles, organs and glands causing minor to major dysfunction. If they attack the joints, you might develop arthritis. If they attack the muscles, you could possibly end up with myofibrosis (aching muscles). If they attack the organs and glands, a myriad of illnesses could occur. The acid wastes set up the stage for practically any and all opportunistic infections to possibly manifest from the common cold to cancer.
Alkaline-forming substances and situations create powerful and sustaining electrochemical results which lead to superior health.
THE pH EQUATION & HEALTH
According to many health researchers,
Total healing of chronic illness takes place only when and if the blood is restored to a normal, slightly alkaline pH.
The magnitude of meaning behind this research is of incredible importance to someone who is fighting a disease, overcoming an illness, or just desiring to feel better.
YOUR BODY pH AFFECTS EVERYTHING
Human blood stays in a very narrow pH range right around 7.3. Below or above this range means symptoms and disease. When pH goes off:
- microbial looking forms in the blood can change shape, mutate, mirror pathogenicity, and grow
- enzymes that are constructive can become destructive
- oxygen delivery to cells suffers
More and more research is showing that low oxygen delivery to cells is a major factor in most if not all degenerative conditions.
Nobel laureate, Dr. Otto Warburg of Germany, won his Nobel Prize for his discovery of oxygen deficiency in the CANCER growth process. As stated above, when pH is off and our bodies are running more acidic, our cells are getting less oxygen. Cancer thrives under an acid tissue pH/oxygen deficient environment. Is it any wonder today that cancer rates are up?
To recall how important oxygen is to your life, just stop breathing for a minute. Get the idea? Each cell in your body can breathe fully or not. Which it is depends upon having an optimum pH balance. Do you think keeping an eye on your body pH might be important in your life?
pH CONTROLS THE THINGS YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT
Like your BRAIN. Your brain needs fuel to run, and the fuel it uses is glucose. But unlike other cells, your brain can't store glucose. It depends on the second to second supply from the liver and bloodstream―a bloodstream that is affected by pH, which controls the efficiency of INSULIN, which allows sugar to enter into cells which in turn controls blood sugar levels.
The liver is vital for the regulation of glucose metabolism, and maintaining it healthy and energetically balanced is key to control glucose production in liver cells.
The body switches from glucose to fat burning mainly in response to two key hormones―insulin and glucagon―that are produced by the pancreas. During feeding, the pancreas releases insulin, which promotes the burning of glucose. At night, however, the pancreas releases glucagon into the bloodstream, which signals the body to fire up the fat burner.
But even during sleep, our brain needs a constant supply of glucose to function properly. For that reason, our body actually manufactures glucose during sleep or when we are fasting. That process, called gluconeogenesis, is carried out mainly in the liver.
Your HEART. William Philpott M.D. in his 'Biomagnetic Handbook' made an important body pH/electrical connection.
As the pH of the blood goes more acid, fatty acids which are normally electro-magnetically charged on the negative side switch to positive and automatically are attracted to and begin to stick to the walls of arteries which are electro-magnetically charged on the negative side. (And as science states, opposites attract.) It should start to make sense that a society which over-emphasizes food that could push blood to be more acid will have a high rate of heart disease. And so it goes.
pH control impacts every biochemical process in the body including:
ENZYMES which are part of that biochemical process. There are hundreds if not thousands of enzyme processes which take place in the body. Many are so specific that they are like complex square pegs that need to "fit" into specific square holes in order to carry out their duty. If blood pH is off balance even a little, some important pegs are not "fitting" their respective slots. Enzyme function and thus life itself begins to suffer.
MINERAL ASSIMILATION is affected by pH. Minerals have different pH levels at which they can be assimilated into the body. Minerals on the lower end of the atomic scale can be assimilated in a wider pH range, and minerals higher up on the scale require a narrower and narrower pH range in order to be assimilated by the body. For example
Sodium and magnesium have wide pH assimilation ranges. It narrows somewhat for calcium and potassium. Narrows more for manganese and iron. More for zinc and copper. More for iodine.
Iodine, which is high up on the atomic scale, requires near perfect pH for its assimilation into the body.
Iodine you may know, is one of the most important minerals for proper functioning of the THYROID. But, the thyroid doesn't get access to iodine unless the body pH is near perfect.
With a society in a largely pH unbalanced state, one would suspect a lot of thyroid problems. Malfunctioning thyroids have been connected to arthritis, heart attacks, diabetes, cancer, depression, overweight, fatigue and more. Are you starting to see the basic metabolic picture evolving here?
Due primarily to agricultural soil depletion and over-acidic food consumption, mineral deficiency is a large problem facing most people today. And mineral deficiency relates to the quantity of life energy or, more specifically, electricity, in our bodies.
Body mineral content and balances control the quantity of electricity in our bodies.
The speed at which the electricity flows is controlled by the body's pH balance.
pH BALANCE AND THE MINERAL CONNECTION
There are complex biochemical processes taking place in the body constantly in an attempt to keep blood pH as near perfect as possible. These are known as the pH buffering systems. These buffering systems need a good balance of minerals to work effectively. If we are getting inadequate mineral intake from the food we eat, we are going to start having problems with our pH balancing systems.
And if our pH is unbalanced, what is the result? Well, by now you should start having a good idea. Pick your disease, choose your unbalance. Cancer, arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, chronic fatigue, allergies, obesity, just name it. If you don't feel good, one of the basic things that stands between you and perfect health is your body's pH. Your basic metabolic body balance.
While We're on the Subject of Minerals... Did you know that:
- Minerals are as important as, if not more important than, vitamins. Minerals are co-enzymes which help vitamins function. In the absence of minerals, vitamins can't do their job. Many minerals are referred to as trace minerals, which might make it seem as though they are of little importance, but nothing could be further from the truth. Minerals and their deficiencies have been implicated in a wide range of off-balance health conditions. Here are some examples:
- Supplementing a diet with sufficient chromium and vanadium can help prevent diabetes and has been seen to reverse diabetes in those already diabetic, as vanadium is reportedly able to replace insulin in some cases.
- Copper deficiency is implicated in aneurysms (brain, aortic, and more)
- Magnesium is quite possibly the most important mineral for the reduction of coronary heart disease. (The latest cutting-edge research shows that heart disease is really a function of heart muscle acidosis)
- Boron helps keep calcium in the bones, helps women preserve and make estrogen, and helps men keep testosterone. Boron affects alertness. Boron can help eliminate arthritis.
- Potassium and magnesium (along with organic sodium) are some of the most important minerals for rebalancing the electrical properties of the cell, for eliminating excess acidity, and for helping to balance calcium.
- Magnesium helps conduct electrical messages between all the neurons of the body.
- People get irrational when potassium levels are low.
- Zinc is involved in over 200 brain enzyme interactions.
- Drinking zinc mixed with distilled water can stop anorexia nervosa in a day.
- Zinc deficiency symptoms include loss of taste and smell.
- Zinc deficiency in children results in moodiness, depression, irritability, photo phobia (light sensitivity), antagonism, temper tantrums & learning problems.
- Children who do poorly on achievement tests tend to have low iron levels. These children also display disruptive, impulsive and irritable behavior in the classroom. Children who have high lead levels do more poorly overall. Most of these children's mineral imbalances go undiagnosed and instead are medicated with drugs.
- Likewise, Attention Deficit Disorder(ADD) can often be eliminated by balancing nutritional trace minerals. There is no need to drug our children.
- Cigarette smoke is rich in cadmium (the blue color in the smoke). Cadmium is the most neurotoxic substance known to human beings. A low zinc/high cadmium ratio is implicated in learning disabilities.
- Zinc is needed to balance cadmium.

- Too much copper is an irritant to the brain.
A story is told by Dr. Alex Schauss, a noted author, researcher, and nutritional mineral expert. It is about his experience with a 9 year old boy brought into his clinic some years ago. The boy had been charged with attempted murder. His criminal record began at age 6. He burned animals, shot at people's houses and beat up mothers pushing baby strollers. The police all said he would be a lifetime criminal, a Charles Manson type of psychotic. He was on six psychiatric drugs, and was kicked out of school after he tried to kill a 10 year old girl. Dr. Schauss did a hair mineral analysis and discovered his copper levels were off the charts. He added supplemental zinc to the boy's diet to chelate out the excess copper, and within two weeks the boys urinalysis showed all the excess copper had been eliminated. He went off all medication, returned to school and became a model student. Years later the boy returned to see Dr. Schauss. He was a junior in college, an A student, on the varsity basketball team, and had a heart of gold.
- High manganese levels show statistically high correlation with violent behavior., while lithium balances and helps control manganese. The cities of the world with the highest lithium concentration in their water show the lowest homicide rates.
- The trace element rubidium cures manic depression.
- The right ratio of copper to zinc in the cell acts as an antioxidant.
This information shows just a teeny fraction of how minerals and mineral imbalances can affect your health. Much of this information is buried in professional journals, there for the taking. It appears that due to politics and the influence and strength that the medical/drug industrial complex has over the suppression of information, these things stay buried.
If this type of information, along with the other things we know, could be assimilated into our society, whether through the efforts of individuals or that of our government, and if people like doctors, psychiatrists, and dietitians were to act on it, we could lessen violence in our society, close jails, raise academic achievement, and greatly reduce outlays of public money for Medicare and Medicaid. We could see our health insurance premiums drop to about $50 dollars a month for a family of four because we could eliminate our need for expensive hospital visits and treatments excepting emergency care for accidents.
Without a doubt, the single most important thing you can do for your health is to supplement your diet with broad spectrum trace minerals. They are that important.
YOUR DISEASE IS IN PERFECT HARMONY WITH YOUR BODY
From what you've learned so far, you should begin to understand the truth of this statement. When your body's mineral balances are off, your health is off. When your body's pH and basic metabolic processes are off, it sets up the internal environment that becomes a new playground for the opportunistic "bugs"―bacteria, viruses, fungi, and more.
The concept of colloids of life in your blood are like the elemental forms called protits and somatids vis a vis Enderlein and Naessans. Whether actual life or not, one thing that is certain is how colloidal particles form and ultimately evolve is a function of pH―the terrain of the blood. What else is a constituent of the blood? How about the mineral balances we've been speaking about. Research has shown that microorganisms can evolve into different looking forms when exposed to and combined with elements like heavy metals. And so it is in the blood. For example, some researchers contend that patients with high levels of mercury in their mouths will often exhibit specific pleomorphic microbe looking elements in their blood.
Is it possible that something like high levels of copper, as referenced in the story above, are more than just an irritant to the brain? Might they set up the internal environment in the body whereby the colloids of life form into specific "bugs" that with some level of microbial consciousness are actually behind aggressive, violent or psychotic behavior? Something to think about perhaps, and in so saying, your blood may be much more than what you think it is.

HYDROCHLORIC ACID (HCL) BEST ALLY IN OUR DIGESTIVE PROCESS
Hydrochloric Acid starts the digestion of protein and stimulates the pancreas to produce digestive enzymes and bile. Without enough of these two substances, we cannot adequately digest or absorb carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Eight (8) essential amino acids, two (2) vitamins and fifteen (15) minerals are dependent on proper HCL for absorption. Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid will not be absorbed from food sources without the correct balance of HCL in the stomach.
Hydrochloric acid is absolutely essential for life. Without it the body cannot make the proper chemical conversions to alkalinity. It is the only acid that our body produces. All other acids are by-products of metabolism and are eliminated as soon as possible.
When we don’t digest foods well, there may be three results:
- We don’t get the nutrition we need.
- Badly digested foods continue through the digestive tract. Some of the larger molecules flow through the intestine into the bloodstream. These larger molecules are seen as invaders by the immune system and are attacked. The result is food allergies. It is estimated that 80 % of patients with food allergies suffer from some degree of impaired hydrochloric acid secretion in the stomach.
- Foods linger for much longer than they should in the digestive system, resulting in an overgrowth of unfriendly bacteria in the small intestine and colon. When bad bacteria outnumber good bacteria, a condition of microbial imbalances is established. According to Elizabeth Lipski, M.S., C.C.N., in her book, Digestive Wellness, dysbiosis may result in such diverse conditions as arthritis, autoimmune disease, vitamin B12 deficiency, chronic fatigue syndrome, eczema, food allergies and food sensitivities, inflammatory bowel disease, and irritable bowel syndrome.
In order to digest food and kill the bacteria and viruses that accompany food, the stomach produces HCL. The stomach pH value is maintained at around 4. When we eat food and drink water, especially alkaline water, the pH value inside the stomach goes up. This triggers a feedback mechanism in our stomach that detects this and instructs the stomach wall to secrete more hydrochloric acid into the stomach to bring the pH value back to 4. So the stomach becomes acidic again.
There is no hydrochloric acid pouch in our body. The cells in our stomach wall produce it on an instantly-as-needed basis. The ingredients in the stomach cell that make hydrochloric acid (HCl) are carbon dioxide (CO2), water (H2O), and sodium chloride (NaCl) or potassium chloride (KCl). NaCl + H2O + CO2 = HCl + NaHCO3, or
KCl + H2O + CO2 = HCl + KHCO3
As we can see, the byproduct of making hydrochloric acid is sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) or potassium bicarbonate (KHCO3), which goes into blood stream. These bicarbonates are the alkaline buffers that neutralize excess acids in the blood; they dissolve solid acid wastes into liquid form. As they neutralize the solid acidic wastes, extra carbon dioxide is released, which is discharged through the lungs.
Therefore, when HCL is balanced in the stomach, the alkaline hormone, secretin, will release from the pancreas in measured amounts. Secretin causes the pancreas to produce copious amounts of a highly concentrated bicarbonate fluid which is very alkalineeforming. Bicarbonate secretions by the pancreas provide an appropriate pH for the action of the pancreatic enzymes. As a result of low hydrochloric acid, the hormone cholecystokinin (CCK) is lowered. CCK is produced in the small intestines and signals the gall bladder to release necessary bile for dispersion of fat globules. Thus, reduced HCL creates an improper bile output and dramatically interferes with the absorption, assimilation, and distribution of nutrients.
